Both Green Burial Council organizations seek new nonprofit board members with a commitment to furthering natural burial practices. GBC Boards are dynamic groups of advocates for environmentally responsible funeral and burial practices through its standards certification program and role in educating the public. Members of the working board of directors devote time and effort to building and sustaining the organization. Prospective candidates choosing to apply for a seat should have adequate experience and skills in one or more of the following areas: communications (social media, web tech, media representation, writing); education and outreach; strategic planning; nonprofit structure, organization, and financial management; standards development and certification. New board members will be expected to have appropriate computer skills, including a facility with email, plus attend regular board meetings via video-conferencing.
The Green Burial Council seeks individuals from all backgrounds, including Indigenous Peoples, People of Color, and LGBTQ+ community members who consider natural burial a viable choice in their lives and communities. We recognize the value in creating a board of directors who reflect diverse cultural, economic, and environmental perspectives in our work to advocate for natural burial.
