Both Green Burial Council organizations are seeking new nonprofit board members with a commitment to furthering natural burial practices. GBC Boards are dynamic groups of advocates for environmentally responsible funeral and burial practices through its standards certification program and role in educating the public.
Prospective candidates choosing to apply for a seat should have adequate experience and skills in one or more of the following areas: communications (social media, web tech, media representation, writing); education and outreach; strategic planning; nonprofit structure, organization, and financial management; standards development and certification. Members of the working board of directors devote time and effort to building and sustaining the organization. New board members will be expected to have appropriate computer skills, including a facility with email and an online document storage system, plus attend regular board meetings via video conferencing. Some committee work will be required as the GBC moves into an exciting new phase of growth.
Being a GBC board member is a great opportunity to serve the movement toward more eco-responsible after-death practices while working shoulder to shoulder with like-minded leaders who share values and goals.
