Apply to serve on the
Science and Research Advisory Panel

The Green Burial Council is seeking members for our new Science and Research Advisory Panel (SRAP). This Panel will provide advice and recommendations to the GBC Boards of Directors on a variety of topics on an as-needed basis. For example, you may be requested to research a new death care technology, or summarize recently published research on carbon sequestration. This is a paid position with a set rate of $100-$150 per research request. The responsibilities of the Panel members may include:
  • Compiling available research
  • Providing updates on new research
  • Synthesizing research for communicating to the public
  • Providing feedback and recommendations on new products or services.
  • Attending subcommittee meetings as needed
  • Working with other Panel members to evaluate options and suggest actions to the GBC
We encourage you to apply if you have research skills, an interest in the growing number of after-death care options, and a background in one of the following topics: mortuary sciences, hydrology, ecosystem services, embalming, refrigeration, carbon measuring, cultural anthropology, mycology, forestry, biology, geology, forensic science, and environmental law.

The GBC is committed to hiring diverse skills, backgrounds, and experiences. All are encouraged to apply. This is an open position and will remain posted until the Panel is full.

Apply to serve as a
Green Burial Council Volunteer

The Green Burial Council (GBC) works toward more sustainable burial practices and supports those who are actively engaged in green burial activities. GBC comprises two distinct nonprofit entities:
  1. The Green Burial Council International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire and advocate for environmentally sustainable, natural deathcare through education and outreach.
  2. The Green Burial Council, Inc. is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit business association which oversees certification conducted by independent third-party experts and works to maintain up-to-date standards for cemeteries, product providers, and funeral directors offering green services.
The impact of both organizations is possible because of generous and committed volunteers; we invite you to join us! The Green Burial Council considers prospective volunteers on an ongoing basis and encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply, including Indigenous Peoples, People of Color, LGBTQ+ community members, and anyone who considers natural burial to be of value to the community.

The Green Burial Council evaluates volunteer applications against organizational need, striving to ensure that a diversity of skills and socioeconomic backgrounds are represented, in order to meet the needs of our diverse community. If you are interested in being considered please complete volunteer application form. For more information, feel free to send us an email with your questions.
