What we do » Public-private partnerships
By helping to create a language, protocols and legally enforceable instruments that allow conservation organizations to work with cemetery operators, funeral homes, and cremation companies, the GBC has created new mechanisms for lowering the environmental impact of the burial process. And in some instances, our work has helped create innovative ways of protecting/creating natural habitat.
With the support of both the Texas State Department of Wildlife (TPW) and the Texas Funeral Director’s Association, we will be launching our first public-private partnership in the spring of 2010. The program will allow for the ashes to be scattered in select areas of state parks near Austin, Dallas and Houston. Proceeds from the program will be utilized by the TPW Foundation to assist in the acquisition of at-risk landscapes throughout the state.
